Information
(2 open Cenotes – 2 Cavern Cenotes)
Live this unique adventure by visiting 4 different cenotes in one day!
Cenotes are definitely the most beautiful jewels of Yucatan peninsula, their waters emerge from the Earth’s heart.
The name Cenote comes from the Mayan Dz’onot, which means “cavern with water.” Over time and the loss of the original Mayan language, we have the current pronunciation: Cenote. Cenotes are natural water wells, which are filled by rain filtration and the world largest underground river systems.
The Mayan civilization considered Cenotes to be the entrance to the underworld, giving them a sacred status. Gold and jade vessels and a multitude of other objects are amongst the things that have been found in the depths of these cavernous pools. It is believed that those objects were given as offering to the Aluches. According to Mayan legends, Aluches were little humanoid beings, guardians of the jungle and the Cenotes.
These natural caverns display spectacular stalactite and stalagmite formations formed millennia ago. Swimming in these locations is an unrepeatable experience that you will never forget. In the open Cenotes part of this tour, you will discover how relaxing it is to submerge in their waters while discovering the wild life around you. Plants, birds, and butterflies will leave an indelible experience in your memory.
